Our in- school and after-school residency program consists of 5, one hour classes located at individual campus locations.
During the first half of the residency, a teaching artist will lead students through traditional theater games that engage their voice, body and imagination. Poetry is then introduced as a script that will be memorized, rehearsed, and performed in an open-workshop style performance for friends and family at the end of the session. Over the course of the drama residency students will have opportunities to build confidence, self-esteem, hone public speaking skills, and create as an ensemble. Working with a script gives them a kinesthetic experience with language, where words "come alive" as an added tool for learning.
play/poetry! meets the California State Standards for Theater Arts, as well as Language Arts and Social Studies when appropriate.
